Services

The Western PA Chapter began over two decades ago as one support group meeting. It now serves the patients and families of the Greater Pittsburgh and Western PA area. Over seven hundred families and professionals make up our mailing list.

An all-volunteer board of directors guides the chapter. This board represents a wide range of experience including HD caregivers, persons at-risk, medical professionals, and volunteers with no previous connection to HD. The chapter's only paid staff is a part time social worker.

The board is also responsible for planning fundraisers to support the services offered by the chapter.

Services provided by the Western PA Chapter include:

• A toll-free helpline, 1-888-779-HDSA, for support and information about HD
• The services of a licensed social worker
• Educational in-services done at nursing homes and health care facilities
• Informational materials provided to professionals and to families at no cost
• Family Retreat Picnic
• Family & Friends Meetings
• Stepping Stones, the chapter's newsletter published 3 times a year
• Comprehensive family education meetings
• May Awareness meetings with nationally known speakers
